About

Who I Am

I’m a UK-based cybersecurity professional working in digital forensics and incident response (DFIR). I started this site because I got tired of the same polished, corporate takes on security — the ones written by people who stopped getting their hands dirty years ago.

The Security Noob is where I write about what I’m actually doing: the tools, the techniques, the books worth reading, and the real-world challenges that don’t always fit neatly into a certification syllabus.

What This Site Is

Real DFIR work. Honest writing. No corporate nonsense.

You’ll find deep-dives into forensic techniques, interviews with people doing interesting things in security, reviews of books I’ve actually read, and career resources for people trying to break in or level up — without the gatekeeping.

What I Cover

  • Interviews — Conversations with practitioners, analysts, and founders doing real work in security.
  • Reviews — Honest takes on security books, courses, and tools.
  • DFIR & Forensics — Techniques, write-ups, and practical guidance from the trenches.
  • Career — Advice for breaking into and growing within cybersecurity, based on experience rather than theory.
  • AI in Security — Watching how AI is changing the threat landscape and the defender’s toolkit.
